Black-Owned Restaurant Month (In Harlem)

final_Black-Owned Restaurant in Harlem

If you’re from New York, you may have heard of Restaurant Week. If you’re from Harlem, you may have heard of Harlem Week. But have you heard of Black-Owned Resturant Month ?  It’s ok if you haven’t, although if you’re Black I’m currently giving you the side eye.

Today is the first official day of Black-owned Resturant Month(BORM). Genese Jamilah, the founder of I don’t do clubs, started BORM in 2015 after she having a hard time locating black-owned businesses. Unable to find this info,  she did it her damn self and created dope lists like Black-Owned Restaurants in NYC,  Atlanta, and DC. They went viral, inspiring her to start BORM.

US Democratic presidential candidate Illinois Senator Barack Obama puts on a napkin while eating a gumbo with Chairman of Louisiana Recovery Authority Dr Norman Francis (R) during his visit at Dooky Chase restaurant in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 7, 2008. Obama was in New Orleans, ahead of Louisiana's primary on February 9, and said the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina which ravaged the city in 2005 was a metaphor for a broken US government.
