Spring is here! It’s raining and things are warming up and blossoming. Now is the time to shed your winter coats, hang up that skully, shave off that winter fat and come out of hibernation. What? Go see the 1st feature film about the life of writer, poet, activist, – just to name a few of her titles- Maya Angelou. The film is a collage of Maya’s words paired with photographs and videos of Mama Angelou’s life during a pivotal time in America. #InspiringWomanPBS

What? FANM DJANM (which means strong women in Creole) is a collection of colorful and stylish head wraps to celebrate strong women from around the world. The company was started by Paola Mathe is a lifestyle blogger of Haitian descent based in Harlem. This pop-up shop will include her fun and colorful head wraps, jewelry, bags, tutorials, and fun.

What? Go to the Museum of the City of New York to travel through time and learn the 350-year-old history of Harlem. Make sure to check out this 66mm film by William Miles that will illustrate the beauty of Harlem as the epic center of Black life and culture. Walk the floors of sixty-three individuals and collectives that work uses different mediums from video game design, photography, installations and more to challenge they way we look at ourselves and our communities. As you walk the hallways of the 2017 Whitney Biennial you’ll witness a collection of art that reflects the current racial, economic and political disparities of America.

What? Instead of turning up on a Friday night you can take a seat at the Brooklyn Zen Center. The Friday Night Zen sessions is designed for those exploring meditation for the first time or seasoned meditators. Geared towards ages 25-40, learn how to take time for self and practice mindfulness as you navigate the everyday hustle of NYC life.
